Numerous poets and literatures refer John Greenleaf Whittier as a the "The Quaker Poet", "The Slave Poet" and the "Fireside Poet." With growing up and being raised by his Quaker parents, Whittier had more of a stronger view of topics such as slavery and Christ. Since his life time is adolescent to the time period of slavery and the Civil War, John Greenleaf had many of his poems surrounding the subject of his beliefs and thoughts on debatable subjects.
